Harvest Time
Harvest Time
October means that farmers throughout the countryside are beginning to harvest the crops they’ve tended for the last 6 months. It’s time where we get to see just how generous and gracious our God’s common grace really is. The sermon series that Jeff and Steve will be sharing in October will deal directly with Harvest (In-Gathering) of what God has provided for us. It is also about sacrifice: look at what the Apostle Paul wrote in Romans 12:1. 1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Ro 12:1 (ESV) This is what we will be exploring throughout the month of October:

October 1 - An In-Gathering of Time

A Place Called Home.. Homecoming 2017
A Place Called Home As we prepare for our annual Reach Out Sunday, we are adding a slightly different twist. We are making this an “old fashioned” Homecoming where we invite our extended church family to come and celebrate the day with us. We have invitation cards being prepared and maybe one or two special events planned for the month of September, including a “Release Party” for Jose’s new album release. We will be inviting some old friends to share for day of music. Then on September 24 we will have a morning of special programming followed by a “Homecoming Carry-In” luncheon.

We are THAT Church
We are THAT Church We like to say “we are that church”. It sounds fresh, even a little bit edgy. But what does it mean? Is there something about our small community of believers which distinguishes us? If so, what is it? Pastor Jeff begins a new series today, examining what we mean when we say we are that church. It’s more than you may think, but is it all that you hope for?

Summer Reminders
Summer Reminders Everything begins to slide into a different kind of scheduling once the calendar reads June. Schools dismiss for the Summer enthralling kids and causing parents to shudder. Businesses begin to adjust their hours to accommodate customer flow during the summer months. There are even some churches that adjust their schedules for the summer. It’s also easy to lose track of what is happening during the summer once the schedules are re-adjusted. Many people plan for and leave on vacation.

For followers of Jesus, it doesn’t hurt to have some “Summer Reminders” that help us keep our lives in balance. Our message series through July 9th will deal with some of those “Reminders” that will keep us on track!

What Christians Should Believe
What Christians Should Believe What holds our lives and purpose for being together? This is a foundational question that deserves a bedrock base. Many people flounder through life because they don’t have something foundational on which to build. For February 5th, 13th, and 20th Pastors Jeff and Steve will be exploring the ultimate of foundational bases for life. We will be looking at the nature of our heavenly Father. We will explore His omnipotence—His All-Powerful nature; His Omnipresence—His Always Present nature; and His Omniscience—His All-Knowing nature. Join us for this very special series as we explore our Creator/Redeemer in “What Christian Should Believe.”

Living Dangerously
Living Dangerously "Don't think about the major issues. You do what you can about the misery in front of you. You add your light to the sum of all light." says Billy Kwan to Guy Hamilton as Guy walks with Billy through the slums of Jakarta for the first time. There are all sorts of choices that are before us. How we respond is important. We can “play it safe” or “live recklessly.” We can stand still or move forward. We can risk or we can lay back.

What direction do you think that God is calling us? Does He call us to be “safe” and to “lay back” lest someone notice us? Or, does He call us to “live dangerously” for the Kingdom? Throughout 2017, we will be exploring what living dangerously means to SummitView and to each of us personally. In January and February we will be exploring Things Christians SHOULDN’T Believe and What Christians SHOULD Believe. In February and March as a congregation we will be exploring what it means to be NOT A FAN (a book by Kyle Idleman).

After Resurrection Sunday we will the idea of “What a Difference” a life lived dangerously means to us. Join us as we make 2017 a year where we live dangerously for God!

How to Survive the Holidays
How to Survive the Holidays The hustle and bustle of the season between Thanksgiving and New Years can seem relentless! Holiday gatherings, parties, shopping, meetings, and family can be overwhelming at times. In spite of the wonderful music of the season, marketers have turned this time into one big commercial. We are bombarded w ith advertising that tries to convince us that giving things and getting things is the most important aspect of December. Obviously that is a BIG LIE! That’s not even what this season is about. The messages throughout the month of December will deal with the practical issue of SURVIVING the Holidays.

Standing in the Gap
Standing in the Gap I looked for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found none. —Ezekiel 22:30 (NIV84)

David Bryant in his 1979 book, In the Gap, states that “The single greatest gap among the nations is between God’s promise to fulfill world evangelization through Christ’s disciples and the faith of those disciples to claim that promise and act on it.” (Bryant, 46). In our next series of messages we will be exploring the observation that God makes to Ezekiel concerning someone to stand in the gap. Will you stand in the gap for your friends, co-workers, neighbors, maybe even family? How big is your faith? How big is your view of the Kingdom of God? Is it “pea-sized?” The mandate that has been given to us by Jesus demands more: Let’s challenge ourselves and each other to be “Standing in the Gap!”

Difference Makers
Difference Makers Did you ever pretend that you were a superhero? Did you ever tie a bath towel around your neck so that you had a cape? Did you ever dream that you could fly or defeat the “bad guys?” Chances are that if you did, it was because you wanted to be a Difference Maker in the world around (even if you were only 5)! For the month of April we will be looking at 4 Difference Makers that we find in the Bible. These are ordinary people (without super powers) whom God used to make a difference.

What Love Looks Like
What Love Looks Like Back in the 1984, (Yes I’m that old) Tina Turner released the single, “What’s Love Got to Do with It?” The song bemoans the common, everyday notion that romantic love and physical attraction are synonymous. It does plant a seed of serious thought: What Does Love Look Like? Does it have those ideals of Romantic period of music? Is it just about physical attraction? Is there something deeper? Is it “just a secondhand emotion?” This series of messages explores the topic of love.

A Good Start
A Good Start All of us at least toy with the idea of setting “New Year Resolutions.” Some of us even keep them—well for about a week or so. We’ve been told, and properly so, that a good start helps to set good habits. During the first three weeks of January we are going to look at what it takes to get off to a good start in our spiritual journeys during the Sunday morning messages.

Coming Home for Christmas
Coming Home for Christmas There is a lot of Christmas music that deals with the sentiment of spending the holiday season with loved ones and with being home. For instance, “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” and “There’s No Place Like Home for the Holidays” deal specifically with coming home. The truth is, Coming Home for Christmas is an important thing for those who have not been with their church families too. This series of messages leads up to inviting those who have drifted from their church families to “Come Home” this Christmas Season.

Life Together
Life Together In 1938, Dietrich Bonhoeffer wrote a book by the same name, Life Together. We wrote, “We thank God for what He has done for us. We thank God for giving us brethren who live by His call, by His forgiveness, and His promise.” The messages for the beginning of November 2015 deal with our “Life Together.” We celebrate how God joined our worship and our lives together with one another and with Him!
